Candle Care & Safety
At Royal Candles New Zealand, we want you to enjoy the warmth and beauty of our handcrafted candles safely and efficiently. To optimize the burn quality of your candle and avoid any potential hazards, please follow our comprehensive care and safety guidelines:

Candle Care Tips
If in doubt, blow it out! Safety always comes first.

  1. Preparation Before Lighting:

    • Remove any decorative elements or labels from around the wick and flame before burning.
    • Protect your surfaces by using a candle plate or ensure they are heat- and stain-resistant to catch any leakage.
  2. Wick Maintenance:

    • Always trim your wick to 5mm before lighting. This helps prevent soot, ensures an even burn, and maximizes your candle’s lifespan.
    • Clear away any wick debris before lighting to maintain a clean and safe flame.
  3. Burn Time Guidelines:

    • Burn your candle for no more than 3 hours at a time. Prolonged burning can cause overheating of the vessel or leakage.
    • Our wood wick candles are optimized for shorter burn times, ensuring a clean and even wax melt.
  4. First Burn Memory:

    • For your candle’s first use, burn it long enough for the wax to melt fully across the surface or reach the edges of the vessel. This sets the “memory” and ensures an even burn for future use. Depending on the candle, this may take 3–4 hours.
  5. Leave a Wax Base:

    • Never burn your candle all the way to the bottom. Leave at least 1cm of wax in container candles to prevent the vessel from overheating. For pyramid style candles, leave about 1 inch of wax for safety.
  6. Extinguishing Your Candle:

    • Do not use a candle lid to extinguish the flame. Ensure the candle is fully extinguished before replacing the lid.
  7. Storage & Handling:

    • Store candles in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, to preserve their fragrance and quality.
    • Burn candles in well-ventilated areas, away from drafts or fans, to prevent uneven burning or flickering.
  8. Wax Disposal:

    • Do NOT pour melted wax down drainage systems. Allow wax to harden, then dispose of it in general waste.
    • Leftover wax can be repurposed in wax melters or burners – no wastage here!
  9. Avoid Stains:

    • Be cautious as melted wax can stain clothing, fabrics, and surfaces.

Safety Guidelines
To enjoy your candle safely, please keep the following precautions in mind

  1. Keep Out of Reach:

    • Always keep candles out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidents.
  2. Hot Vessels & Tins:

    • Candle tins and vessels will become hot during use. Never attempt to move a burning or recently extinguished candle.
  3. Never Leave Unattended:

    • Never leave a burning candle unattended. Extinguish the flame if you’re leaving the room.
  4. Melted Wax Caution:

    • Melted wax can cause severe burns:
      • On Skin: Immediately run the affected area under cold water for at least 15 minutes. If pain persists, seek medical attention or dial 111.
      • In Eyes, Ears, Nose, or Mouth: Seek medical attention immediately or dial 111.
      • Under cold water, the wax will solidify and can often be gently flaked off.
  5. Allergies:

    • Our candles are made with natural waxes, fragrance oils, and may contain nut or bee products. If you have sensitivities, please check the ingredients before use.

By following these tips and guidelines, you’ll enjoy your Royal Candles safely while preserving their luxurious quality. Thank you for bringing our handcrafted creations into your space.
